Fact of the Day:
On June 16, 1963, Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space as a cosmonaut aboard Vostok 6.
She orbited the earth 48 times in 3 days and came within 5 km of Vostok 5, which was orbiting at the same time.
She later went into national politics and won a Hero of the Soviet Union medal along with dozens of awards and other honors.
