June 19 is Juneteenth.
It marks the day in 1865 when Union general Gordon Granger announced news of the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, Texas.
The proclamation had been issued by Abraham Lincoln in 1862 to free all slaves in the United States.
The news took over 2 years to reach Texas.
The freed slaves celebrated in the streets, and the day has been celebrated ever since.
